Yassou! Prepare for another weekend of fun and food as Annunciation Cathedral in Fort Myers presents its 45th Annual Greek Festival Feb. 21, 22 and 23 on the cathedral grounds at 8210 Cypress Lake Drive.
Gyros, moussaka, lamb, baklava and all your favorite Greek foods and pastries will fill you up while you watch traditional dance performances and listen to live music. You’ll be transported to the Greek Isles as you visit the authentic Greek Taverna, sip Greek coffee or whet your whistle with the traditional liqueur, Ouzo.
The Greek Company Orchestra will entertain festival goers. Showcasing a wide variety of Hellenic music styles, The Greek Company can excite any crowd with a colorful blend of dance music and easy-listening tunes. Combining the sweet sounds of bouzouki duets, the mesmerizing lilt of the keyboard and the hard-driving rhythm of the drums and the bass makes everyone want to dance. And of course, unleashing the hypnotic sounds of the clarinet and the violin brings back the Greek traditions that we’ve all grown to love.
There will be a carnival for children, complete with rides and games as well as vendors selling Greek specialties, clothing, jewelry and gifts. Church tours will introduce you to the ancient beauty of this Byzantine faith.
Curbside carryout is available from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Friday if you want to take some Greek meals home for dinner after a long work week.
There will even be free parking and an onsite shuttle to transport straight to the Grecian fun. Enter to win your choice of a Lexus IS350 or $25,000 cash.
Adult admission of $5 lets you in for the entire three-day event and kids under 12 are free. Not only will the entire family enjoy the weekend, you can feel good knowing a portion of net proceeds will benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
Festival hours run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Get your Greek on at Fort Myers Annual Greek Fest Feb. 21 – 23. For more information, call 239-481-2099 or visit www.greekfestfortmyers.com
