Florida Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Barefoot in the Park by Neil Simon, to kick off 2020.
Barefoot in the Park plays in the Historic Arcade Theatre Jan. 10 to Jan. 29 with four previews Jan. 7 – 9.
“Florida Rep is so excited to stage another classic from the beloved playwright, Neil Simon,” said artistic director Greg Longenhagen, “Florida Rep has a long history of producing Simon’s work. Over the past 22 seasons, Florida Rep has continued to bring Neil Simon’s work to our audiences, including two productions of Rumors (2002 and 2011), Brighton Beach Memoirs, Fools and Biloxi Blues. We are thrilled to present the timeless and hilarious romantic comedy that is Barefoot in the Park!”
Florida Rep salutes one of America’s most beloved playwrights, the late Neil Simon, with this hilarious and touching romantic comedy. Simon’s multiple Tony-nominated play follows Paul and Corie Bratter, newlyweds in every sense of the word: He is a straight-laced attorney and she is a spontaneous free spirit always in search of the latest fad. Their new apartment is her most recent find – too expensive with bad plumbing and a skylight that snows. After a six-day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother. The pair decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their eccentric neighbor-in-the-attic – where everything that could go wrong, does.
