DJ’s Rhythm House in south Fort Myers continues to be a hot spot for live blues in Southwest Florida, and a new event will showcase some more great musical talent.
The first indoor blues fest is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 1 to 7 p.m. Doors will open at noon. The day’s musical lineup includes JP Soars & the Red Hots, Sean Chambers, Josh Rowand and the Pitbull Blues Band and Johnny Jensen.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Call 239-466-8326 for reservations.
The local music venue has been doing a monthly blues event since May that has featured a national act whose tour is coming through the area. The Rhythm House is growing that audience and has collaborated with local blues musician Marty Stokes to help bolster the venue’s blues calendar and reputation.
“The Rhythm House is continually striving to improve its venue,” says Stokes. He reports the ambience is better and the lighting allows for more of a blues house kind of atmosphere. “The future looks good,” says Stokes in regard to more blues concerts at DJ’s Rhythm House.
J.P. Soars is soaring high, nominated for “Blues Rock Artist of the Year” in the 40th annual Blues Music Awards in 2019. Soars was nominated alongside blues music heavyweights Billy Gibbons, Eric Gales, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Tinsley Ellis, rounding out the Blues Rock category. Soars has been touring the world and released a new studio album in August produced by Tab Benoit on Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou label.

Sean Chambers

During Sean’s tenure with Sumlin, Britain’s own Guitarist magazine named Chambers as “One of the top 50 blues guitarists of the last century.” In 2009, Chambers went into the studio to record his critically-acclaimed album, Ten Til Midnight. which garnered rave reviews and also appeared on the Living Blues chart for the first three months after its release.

Josh Rowand and the Pitbull of Blues Band

The Pitbull of Blues Band is more than just a generic blues band. As a Florida based band, “The Pitbull of Blues Band” enjoys sharing their own breed of blues with others. Putting the bite in blues, this band delivers a show that reminds you why you fell in love blues.

Johnny Jensen

Johnny Jensen is a 16 year old blues/fusion/jazz artist who resides on Captiva. His love for music began at a very young age. At age 2, he would sit for hours and strum on his toy guitar. When given a set of drums at age 4, he quickly shifted his attention to percussion. Some of his most recent accomplishments include being selected by the SWFL Blues Society to represent them in Memphis at the 2019 and 2020 International Blues Challenge.
