The next free concert with the Bonita Springs Concert Band will be Sunday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Park in Downtown Bonita Springs.
The guest vocalist is Jennifer Gilmore, known throughout Florida as “Golden Note.” Her extraordinary career shows her belief that music makes a difference. A dynamic vocal powerhouse, her stylistic diversity, natural charm, and soulful charisma has conquered the hearts of music fans of all ages. Jennifer will perform a tribute to Whitney Houston and from Les Miserable, “Bring Him Home.” She was a third round finalist for the TV show X-Factor.
Jennifer’s newest themed show is “Dynamic Divas,” featuring her spot-on chill-inducing renditions of classics by divas like Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston Karen Carpenter, Dolly Parton, Celine Dion, Vicki Carr and Adele.
The band will play “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray, John Philip Sousa’s “Semper Fidelis” and highlights from “La La Land.”
The band is half its normal size following Covid guidelines for social distancing. Members are under the direction of Gary Smith who retired after 24 years as conductor of the University of Illinois Marching Illini Band and Symphonic Band. This is the seventh season that Gary has led the band. Gary says, “The talent of these musicians is tremendous, ranging in age from 15 to 94.”
