The first free concert of the 2021-22 season kicks off with the Bonita Springs Concert Band on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Park in Downtown Old Bonita Springs.
The band will pay tribute to all veterans in honor of Veterans Day. The concert will feature “Armed Forces Salute,” “Star Spangled Salute,” “Flying Fortress” and “America the Beautiful,” sung by Mark Sanders. Mark is a local favorite who has sung on numerous occasions with the band. Sanders will also perform “Barry Manilow on Tour.” Other songs will include: “Land of Liberty,” “Ask Not” and “American Flourish.”
The band is half its normal size following Covid guidelines for social distancing. Members are under the direction of Gary Smith who retired after 24 years as conductor of the University of Illinois Marching Illini Band and Symphonic Band. This is the 8th season that Gary has led the band. Gary says “the talent of these musicians is tremendous, ranging in age from 15 to 90.”
Become a “Friend of the Band” for just $50. Find out more at www.bonitaspringsconcertband.org. The concert will also be available on Facebook at Bonita Springs Concert Band.
