Bonita Springs Concert Band to play May 9

The next free concert with the Bonita Springs Concert Band will be Sunday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Riverside Park in Downtown Old Bonita Springs.
The band will have a special Mother’s Day Musical Celebration in tribute to mom. The concert will feature musical highlights from the 2020-21 season. Heather Ivie and Mark Sanders will return to repeat their vocal performances, and George Sims will perform on bagpipes with the band. The new guest performer with be Ansel Norris, assistant principal trumpet with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra.

The band is half its normal size following Covid guidelines for social distancing. Members are under the direction of Gary Smith who retired after 24 years as conductor of the University of Illinois Marching Illini Band and Symphonic Band. This is the 7th season that Gary has led the band. Gary says “the talent of these musicians is tremendous, ranging in age from 15 to 94.”

Bring a lawn chair and a friend Sunday, May 9. Attendees are asked to wear a mask into the park and socially distance per CDC guidelines.
