Artists Bob and Patti Stern have been selected as the featured artists for The Bonita Springs Invitational Art Festival at The Promenade at Bonita Bay Feb. 15 and 16.
Bob and Patti Stern use wonderfully old architectural artifacts and construct them into truly one-of-a-kind art pieces. All of the elements used to create their wonderful mixed media sculptures are circa 1850-1910 found items. Bob and Patti create every finish for antiquity using patinas, glazes and hand rubbing and weathering techniques. Bob constructs the creations with salvaged barn siding, Victorian hardware, and antique architectural findings to transform them into art pieces.
The couple started with a vision of using vintage windows as home accessories and giving them another life as art. By appreciating the historical value and the beautiful craftsmanship of nineteenth century items they have enjoyed blending the beauty of these materials to create their own one-of-a-kind art pieces. Each piece they create is presented so art lovers can appreciate that their work is honors the personal history of their past.
Their large whimsical sculptures are transformed into art by applying various finishes. Each is painted for antiquity to create either patina or hand-rubbed, weathered glazed finishes. Their newest items are clock head curio cabinets created from architectural artifacts. While mimicking the human form they are both functional and fashionable ~ a new twist on the ‘grandfather clock’. Natural freeze-dried, lacquered flowers and mirrors are just a few of the materials used to create unique yet functional architectural art. In addition, their beautiful curio cabinets are crafted from vintage windows. You will not see such unique artwork created by any other artist. Each piece is truly one of a kind.
