The Center for the Arts Bonita Springs will display an Abstract Fiber Composition exhibit by Cheryl Costley March 5 – 25 at the Visual Arts Center, 26100 Old 41 Road.
Marco Island resident artist Cheryl Costley works in her island studio, close to the mangroves, where she makes original art quilts and fiber wall hangings. She considers it a luxury to spend so much time creating her distinctive artwork, which is ever evolving and reflective of her as a person.
Costley creates art with fiber and fabric. She uses the traditions of art and sewing in her unique works that push new boundaries.
She is inspired by much that is real—nature, people, events, literature, emotions and music. Her works convey the impression of space and proportion through the use of strong colors and textures which give the viewer latitude to make their own interpretation of intent.
Costley has spent years studying under distinguished fiber artists who guided her in cultivating her own distinct, award-winning style. She is a consummate learner and experimenter. Costley continues to take classes in all art mediums, expanding her knowledge base and incorporating these techniques into her process.
