It’s the most wonderful time of the year…if you love Halloween and all things spooky, that is. For the directors of a chilling upcoming play, Beware the House on Haunted Hill!, opting to put together a mysterious murderous production was an easy decision. “I really like Halloween,” said Laura LeRoy, who is co-directing Beware with the Cultural Park Theatre Company artistic director Robin Murray.
“Halloween is my favorite holiday,” agreed Robin. “Doing a version of one of the scariest movies of its time, with one of my favorite people, just sounded like a fun time.”
While Beware heavily leans toward the genre of “thriller,” there are some lighthearted moments as well. “The show isn’t really a comedy, but it is fun. I would say it’s appropriate for kids, but they might not get the jokes,” said LeRoy. “Older kids may get a kick out of it,” added Robin. “Some of the characters are a riot…and there are a few ghouls that will be pretty interesting.”
The directors were both impressed to watch their cast quickly flourish and fall head first into their newfound identities within the pages of the script. “My favorite part of this experience has been watching the actors develop their characters,” said LeRoy.
A production of this caliber doesn’t appear out of thin air, however. “I’d just really like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters in the community,” LeRoy said. “It’s because of your generous contributions that we’re able to create such an immersive experience.”
While this haunting tale is enticing enough on its own, there are other reasons to make sure you purchase a ticket. Between costume contests and goodie bags, you don’t want to miss out on a wickedly good time. In closing, Robin had more praise for the cast. “When you have a group of actors that have this level of talent and love for Halloween and suspense, the show is fated to be a ‘killer’ good time.”
Beware the House on Haunted Hill! will be on stage Wednesday through Sunday, from Oct. 18 to Oct. 22. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit culturalparktheater.com or call the box office at 239-772-5862.
