DAAS Co-Op Art Gallery & Gifts features the whimsical works of Maria Ramona Sanchez in March.
The exhibition is a collection of surrealist pieces, created within recent years. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, March 6 from 6 to 10 p.m., in conjunction with the monthly Fort Myers Art Walk. The pieces will be on display through March 28.
Maria Ramona Sanchez was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1952. She graduated from University of Havana with a degree in Spanish literature. She is a self-taught artist painting with oils on wood, canvas and handmade paper. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Latin America, the United States and Europe, and also participated in important art fairs (Chicago, Art Miami, Art Santa Fe, Red Dot Art) and museum exhibitions (MOLA, Long Beach, Santa Fe Museum of History in New Mexico, Naples Museum of Art and National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana). Many of her paintings are part of important private collections worldwide. She has made big format works that are part of public and private places.
She has also illustrated books for children and youngsters (Scholastic/Lectorum in US and Everest, Spain). Currently, she lives and works in Southwest Florida, United States.
The artist shares, “The moon lives in its secular cycles and rhythms. Creatures of diverse origin flow with it in a cosmic dance. With its intangible light fills hearts with magic.
Painting is a deep and integral part of my life. It is a perceptual adventure, and my most pleasing support whenever giving or receiving anything. My paintings and their inhabitants come without effort, sometimes surprised to find themselves in them. And they arrive with a mission: that of populating the universe with beauty, love and a serene happiness.”
The gallery invites all Southwest Florida art collectors, supporters and enthusiasts to join us for the opening reception. As always, the gallery will be filled with the most beautiful inventory of art, fine crafts, apparel, sculptures, pottery and jewelry, all produced here by the member artists.
DAAS Co-Op is located at 1815 Fowler St., Unit 3, in Fort Myers. Hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More information about the gallery or how to become a member can be found at www.daascoop.com or call 239-590-8645.
