In the month of September, DAAS Co-Op Art Gallery & Gifts presents the abstract art of Karen Gozzo Nolan. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 1 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in conjunction with the monthly Fort Myers Art Walk.
The exhibition will be on display through Oct. 1.
Karen Gozzo Nolan lived in Connecticut until she was 28 years old, later relocating to Vermont. She has been creative since childhood, always a lover of art. As a single mother, life didn’t allow her to follow the dreams of being a professional artist. While living in Vermont, she was the manager of a home decorating center for over 13 years. She worked closely with contractors, selecting interior and exterior products and color pallets for new homes and condominium construction projects. She produced art all throughout her life and after battling a rare disease, she vowed to follow her lifelong passion. It wasn’t until relocating to Rotonda West, Florida in 2013, that she was well enough to pursue her dream.
Painting is an outlet of escape for the artist, or as she puts it, “her distraction from life, and a place of total meditation and peace.”
Gozzo Nolan is primarily self-taught as an abstract expressionist. Her paintings are influenced by music, the emotion that comes from it, and her love for vibrant color. “The paint and brush become my instrument and my art is the song it plays,” adds the artist.
DAAS Co-Op Art Gallery & Gifts is located at 1815 Fowler St. in the Butterfly Estates complex in downtown Fort Myers. The gallery hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
