DAAS Co-Op Art Gallery & Gifts is featuring the art of Colombian artist Dilya Schauer in February.
The exhibition will feature a selection of newer works as well as retrospective pieces from the artist’s collection. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in conjunction with the monthly Fort Myers Art Walk. The exhibition will be on display through Feb. 27.
Schauer is a veteran painter who studied art in her native Colombia under the tutelage of prominent figures like Luis A. Acuna, S.A.Gelvis and Rodriguez Naranjo. She furthered her studies by attending the Art Students League in New York. She has been a resident of Southwest Florida for more than a decade.
Nature is the center of Schauer’s work. She is also a painter of still life and a gifted portrait artist. “For a still life painter, the initial challenge is to create a picture before the brush is put on the canvas,” explains the artist.
“I arrange the items carefully, so that they become an artistic statement themselves, establishing by association significance and dynamic relationships through specific positioning,” concludes Shauer, who strongly believes that by juggling the objects into a meaningful still life, she reveals a great deal about herself.
The gallery invites all Southwest Florida art collectors, supporters and enthusiasts to join them for the opening reception. DAAS Co-Op is located at 1815 Fowler St. in the Butterfly Estates complex in Fort Myers.
The gallery’s temporary business hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More information about the venue and how to become a member can be found at www.daascoop.com or by calling 239-590-8645.
