Arts for ACT Gallery welcomes Doug Smithwick as the featured artist in July. An opening reception will be held Friday, July 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with the monthly Fort Myers Art Walk.
Born in Norfolk, Va., Doug Smithwick was exposed to art at an early age. He has always been drawn to abstract art, with influences like Picasso, Mondrain and Kandinsky being his inspirations. As a teenager, Doug spent summers in New York City, enjoying the art and architecture.
Doug’s love of straight edge lines and angles give his art a mid-century modern vibe. He never has a plan when he starts a new work, just starts with a form and lets the canvas dictate where to form from there. Doug loves color and balance and his favorite shape is the triangle.
Come see this colorful abstract exhibit and see how many triangles you can find.
The monies raised at the non-profit gallery support Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Inc., the domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking center serving Lee, Hendry and Glades counties. Come view all of the creative artworks of over 50 artists and support ACT Gallery.
This exhibit continues through Monday, Aug. 1. Arts for ACT Gallery is located at 2265 First St. in downtown Fort Myers.
