Florida Repertory Theatre will stage Hank Williams: Lost Highway by Randal Myer and Mark Harelik March 22 through April 14 in the Historic Arcade Theatre.
Told by a company of actor-musicians, Hank Williams: Lost Highway is an award-winning tribute to one of the great innovators of American popular country music. The story follows Williams’ rise from humble beginnings on the Louisiana Hayride to triumphs on the Grand Ole Opry, and his eventual self-destruction at the age of twenty-nine.
The production includes indelible songs like “I’m So Lonely I Could Cry,” “Move It On Over,” “Hey, Good Lookin’,” “Honky Tonk Blues,” “Your Cheating Heart,” and others.
“Audiences are in for a musical treat with this biography musical,” said producing artistic director Greg Longenhagen. “Hank Williams made an incredible impact on the path of country music and helped move it into the modern era. Our very talented actor-musicians brilliantly convey the spirit of William’s music as they convey Hank’s short, yet illustrious life.”
The cast features returning actors Matt Cusack (Ring of Fire), Allison Ann Kelly (Ring of Fire), Carolyn Messina (Alabaster), Jeremy Sevelovitz (Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors, Million Dollar Quartet), and making their Florida Rep debuts are Noah Canales, Margaret Dudasik, Vince Federici, David Finch, Joel Newsome and Sam Sherwood.
Associate artistic director Jason Parrish (The Legend of Georgia McBride) directs the production and is rejoined by members of the creative team behind last season’s Ring of Fire including musical director Matt Cusack, set designer Bert Scott, costume designer Kim Griffin, lighting designer Tyler Perry and sound designer Katie Lowe. The production will be stage managed by Phill Madore (The Mountaintop).
