Gulf Coast Symphony offers a holiday season of music

Celebrate the spirit of the season with Gulf Coast Symphony’s new and time-honored holiday traditions.
This December, president & CEO Dr. Andrew Kurtz, along with symphony board of directors, present four different holiday shows: Deck the Halls, the Nutcracker, Snowbird Follies and Swinging Holidays.
Each show features a different genre, inviting individuals, couples, and families alike to get into the holiday spirit through music.
Back by popular demand, The Snowbird Follies runs from Nov. 29 – Dec. 23 at the Music and Arts Community Center (MACC) located at 13411 Shire Lane, Fort Myers. This whimsical musical yuletide celebration, gives a winking nod to Fort Myers’ original snowbirds, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.
Snowbird Follies was conceived and created by Maestro Andrew Kurtz, with original musical arrangements created by Julie Carver, and written in part, by renowned director and writer DJ Salisbury.
On Sunday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., the festive sounds of the season return at the Barbara B Mann Performing Arts Hall as the symphony presents your most favorite symphonic pops holiday medleys. From Leroy Anderson’s endearing Sleigh Ride, a medley of music from Christmas movie classics, to the Mannheim Steamroller Silent Night, and Santa. Deck the Halls is your favorite Southwest Florida holiday tradition, perfect for the whole family.
The holiday performance of the Jazz at the MACC series occurs Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. with Swinging Holidays. Experience the enchantment of live jazz as Gulf Coast Jazz Collective brings their unique interpretations and improvisations to holiday favorites. You’ll be transported to a winter wonderland filled with swinging melodies, harmonies and infectious rhythms that will warm your heart and lift your spirits.
And finally on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 and 7 p.m., Gulf Coast Symphony, along with Gulfshore Ballet, presents The Nutcracker. A treasured classic for the whole family to enjoy, this production comes to life with to the backdrop of Tchaikovsky’s mesmerizing score, and features new choreography created by Gulfshore Ballet artistic directors Iliana Lopez & Franklin Gamero.
