Harbour View Gallery in Cape Coral will welcome featured artists Patsy Dautle (watercolors) and Shannon Vickers (lampworking) at a reception on Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Patsy Dautle lived most of her life in southern New Jersey and the Eastern Shore of Maryland but moved to South West Florida to be close to family and enjoy the beauty, allure and warmth of this paradise of ever changing light, shadows and hues.
The excitement of drawing began at an early age as she did renditions of the seasons on the chalk boards in elementary school and fashion drawing in high school. Pat took many classes over the years, from stained glass, porcelain doll making and pottery to needlework and acrylic painting and has been a seamstress since age 11. She began private lessons in watercolor and a “new world” opened its doors. She has studied extensively with national and local artists in watercolor and pastels and has won many awards.
Cape Coral based artist Shannon Vickers has been captivated by lampwork since attending a class in 2008. While single bead pendants and simple jewelry pieces make up much of her work she is particularly interested in small sculptural figures. She enjoys exploring how the glass moves and frequently uses gravity as a tool to pull forms into shape.
Her work has appeared in “The Flow” magazine, in the book 100 More Beads, and in gallery shows across the country. She is an avid supporter of Beads of Courage, a children’s charity that uses artist made beads to help children record, tell and own their stories of treatment for serious illnesses. “Lampworking has given me not only an enjoyable pastime but a way to give back,” she says. “It is my greatest aggravation and fondest passion. I hope to learn from it and be challenged by it for years to come.”
Their work will be on display through February. The gallery is located at 5789 Cape Harbour Drive, suite 104, in the Shops at Cape Harbour in Cape Coral.
