Hirdie Girdie Gallery welcomes award-winning watercolor artist JoAnn LaPadula as a new member this season.
JoAnn’s artwork has been featured in several area publications, and in the Florida Watercolor Society online exhibition. JoAnn describes her art as colorful abstract/realism rather than traditional watercolor. She employs a blowing/spraying technique and negative painting to achieve her signature style.
In addition to painting, JoAnn strives to inspire others by teaching a one-day workshop.
February guest artist potter Carol Young spent many years living in Fairbanks, Alaska, working as an art teacher and actively participating in the local art community. She is now enjoying exhibiting in area galleries and being involved in arts organizations in Southwest Florida.
Carol loves color and spontaneity, which she feels is apparent in her creations, and she describes her work as a bit whimsical. Her goal is to keep her art fresh and new, and she likes to include a little surprise on the bottom of each piece.
The Hirdie Girdie Gallery will be hosting a reception on Feb. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring JoAnn LaPadula’s and Carol Young’s artwork. Everyone is invited to meet the artists and enjoy complimentary refreshments and live music by Bob Housler.
Hirdie Girdie Gallery is located at 2490 Library Way on Sanibel. Gallery hours are Monday – Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find out more by calling 239-395-0027 or visiting online at
