Gulfshore Opera rings in the seasonal cheer with a Holiday Harmony concert tour to begin the first week of December.
Opening in Bonita Springs, St. Leo’s Parish Life Center will host GO’s initial Holiday Harmony concert on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m., in which audiences can enjoy singing or humming along to popular songs like “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas,” as well as more traditional Christmas carols like “O Holy Night.”
A Holiday Harmony concert will also be held on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Gulf Theatre in Punta Gorda. These concerts are one hour long and feature two versatile Florida based artists, Lauryn Kay, mezzo-soprano, and Jonathan Tibbetts, baritone.
At both concerts, artists will be joined for some favorite holiday carols by the Opera’s Harmony Choir, a chorus of talented children who have been growing and honing their vocal skills with GO artists. The Harmony Choir is a part of GO’s youth engagement program that fosters young artists by encouraging personal confidence and social skills, and nurtures cognitive development through music lessons and choral participation.
Performing artist Lauryn Kay holds a bachelor of arts and artist certificate from Charleston Southern University and a master of music from the University of Florida. She has performed throughout the Southeast and abroad, including England, Spain, Hungary and Vienna as a soloist and choral member. With Gulfshore Opera, she has performed the roles of Flora in LaTraviata, Maffio Orsini in scenes from Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgio. Being a versatile performer, her repertoire includes both operatic and musical theatre roles.
Jonathan Tibbetts was last seen in Naples at the GO Ferrari party and the audience enjoyed his mature and sensitive voice. He is currently a Herndon Foundation emerging artist with the Virginia Opera; and will debut as The Official Registrar this spring while covering Sharpless and Yamadori in Madama Butterfly. Later this spring, Tibbetts will be featured as Dr. Pangloss from Bernstein’s Candide with the Georgia State University Theater. He will be returning to Songfest in California at the Colburn School as a professional fellow performing in a series of concerts and master classes.
They are accompanied by collaborative pianist Diego Davila. For info and tickets, visit www.gulfshoreopera.org or call 239-529-3925.
