Joey & Maria’s Comedy Italian Wedding returns to Bonita

“We are back for our third season at The Elks Club in Bonita,” says Darlyne Franklin.
Joey and Maria’s Comedy Italian Wedding is an interactive dinner show that began in Boston in 1992.
It was written by Darlyne Franklin, formerly a native East Bostonian, now full time resident of Bonita Springs.
The show was derived from her observing how back in the 1990s people enjoyed the trending murder mysteries and karaoke. Merging her comedy and TV writing experience she decided to write an Italian comedy wedding.
An event where the audience is part of the show, they’re the invited guests, they dance, drink, eat, mingle with each other and the bridal party.
Believing “it’s best to write what you know,” she made the show like her own families traditional weddings, Italian. At every Italian wedding, the dad chooses the music, the uncle sings Mack the Knife, the groomsman makes a revealing toast about the groom, the Nonna sings the wrong lyrics to Cellaluna, someone over drinks, someone gets a “weekend pass from jail” from the governor, you know, a regular Italian wedding! It’s a blast.
It has run in over 19 major cities across the U.S. including Las Vegas, Boston and New York. It is also played in other countries, The UK, Greece, Ireland, Australia and Canada.
Joey & Maria’s Comedy Wedding opens Jan. 13 at The Bonita Elks, 3231 Coconut Road. Shows will run until April 6. Remaining shows are scheduled for Jan. 26, Feb. 3, 11 and 24, March 9 and 26 and April 6. Tickets are $75 and include dinner. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner is at 6:15 p.m.
