The Americana Community Music Association presents Jon Shain in concert on Saturday, Sept. 24 at its listening room located at All Faiths Unitarian Congregation in Fort Myers.
Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who’s been turning heads for years with his words, his fiery acoustic guitar work, and his evolved musical style – combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass, swing, and ragtime. He is the 2019 winner of the International Blues Challenge in the solo/duo category.
Shain headed south to North Carolina in 1986, to study American history at Duke University and to continue his musical journey, as well. Along the way, Jon has released eight studio albums, working with studio luminaries such as Dave Mattacks, Tom Dube, and Chris Stamey, along the way. As a guest artist, Jon has recorded with Jim Avett, Greg Humphreys, Dana Kletter, and many others and his instrumental music has been placed in several documentary films and commercials, as well as on shows on the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet.
The last few years have seen Jon headlining listening rooms on the East Coast, in the Midwest and in Europe, as well as opening shows for John Hiatt, Keb’ Mo’, Little Feat, and others.
Shain’s last release is the gorgeous roots album, Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday Soon, recorded along with long-time collaborator FJ Ventre. They have a new album, Never Found Way to Tame the Blues.
Mike McMillan opens the show on Sept. 24. He is a member of the ACMA and singer/songwriter of his own material. Mike is also a member of local group The Pearl Street Band.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Door donations are $12 for ACMA members and $18 for non members.
The ACMA also holds singer-songwriter circles at 2 p.m. on the first and third Sunday of each month hosted by Bill Gallant. The circle provides a unique opportunity for songwriters of all level to work together in a non-judgmental environment.
All Faiths Unitarian Congregation is located at 2756 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers. Find out more at www.americanacma.org
