Grab your boots, your hat and your friends and head to Laishley Park as Punta Gorda’s Downtown Hoedown returns with Little Texas and The Kentucky Headhunters.
The Downtown Hoedown has long been a Punta Gorda favorite and has been on hiatus due to the pandemic and Hurricane Ian, respectively. This incarnation serves to be a triumphant return for Southwest Florida. The concert will be held Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m.
In the early ’90s, as a new brand of country music was commanding the airwaves, there was a First Time for Everything. With its debut album, Little Texas burst onto the scene with songs written, recorded, and performed exclusively by the members themselves, quickly becoming one of the top vocal bands of the decade. During its heyday, Little Texas racked up 12 Top 20 singles (with 7 Top 10s and 3 consecutive No. 1s in a 12-month period) and received multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM nominations, winning the ACM for Top Vocal Group of 1994.
The Kentucky Headhunters, declared “the great American rock ‘n’ roll band” by Billboard magazine, began their professional journey in 1968 when brothers Fred and Richard Young and cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney formed the Southern blues-rock band Itchy Brother. The band morphed into The Kentucky Headhunters in 1986. The band has won a Grammy Award, three Country Music Awards, an American Music Award and an Academy Of Country Music Award.
