Local Showcase debuts at Miromar Outlets

The Local Showcase, debuting Saturday, Aug. 1 at Miromar Outlets, gives the public a year-round indoor location to shop their favorite local arts, crafts and handcrafted items every day. The showcase will offer an array of handmade merchandise – from paintings, fused glass, coastal crafts, woodwork, jewelry, wearable art, soap and artisan food. Vendors and products will change daily at the year-round market, the first of its kind in Southwest Florida.
“Many items are custom or handmade by local artists,” said Christy Dunn, LLSN founder and CEO. “The Local Showcase supports local artists, local families and small businesses and helps to boost the local economy and circulate dollars locally.”
“This is an exciting addition to Miromar Outlets’ top designer and brand name factory outlet stores and restaurants,” said Jeff Staner, vice president and general manager of Miromar Outlets. “The Local Showcase provides an incredible opportunity for our arts community and patrons interested in supporting local artisans. It’s the only arts and crafts market I know of in Southwest Florida that’s opened daily year round.”
Displays will be spaced to promote social distancing. The Aug. 1 grand opening of the Local Showcase is fully reserved with 30 vendors.
“We’ve been attracting artists from Sarasota, Punta Gorda and as far away as Daytona,” Dunn said. “Consumers want to support local artists. They want that personal touch – it’s been a national trend.”
Located next to Columbia Sportswear and across from H&M, the Local Showcase is opened during Miromar Outlets’ temporary new hours: Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.
The Local Showcase will also sponsor painting and art-themed workshops, a free self-defense class and seasonal fairs such as fall and Christmas events including a gingerbread house decorating contest. Also planned is a self-defense class and the Sept. 19 Woofstock, a dog-friendly festival offering workshops, demonstrations and an adopt-a-thon.
Artists and vendors interested in reserving space can contact Dunn at LLSN@comcast.net.
