PLEASE NOTE: As of Feb. 10, this show has been postponed.
Gold Theatricals’ first production in the Punta Gorda Theatre Series will be A.R. Gurney’s Love letters. It will be presented Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Charlotte Performing Arts Center, 701 Carmalita St., Punta Gorda.
A love story that spans through time and distance, centers around characters Andrew and Melissa, childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with thank-you notes and summer camp postcards. Romantically attached, the two continue to exchange letters through their own very different life experiences, moving from college and adulthood to divorce and death and ultimately to the eloquent realization of what their exchanges meant to the other.
The Punta Gorda production will be directed by theatre veteran Jessica Walck, current associate artistic director of The Naples Players and graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School in New York City.
The play stars Debi Guthery and Mike Nichols.
Guthery, a local and national tour theatre veteran, performs all over Southwest Florida including receiving rave reviews of her one-woman musical comedies. Nichols, a MFA holder from the Old Globe Theatre/The University of San Diego, has appeared on Broadway alongside Nathan Lane and in Steppenwolf Theatre’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He has an extensive resume spanning the United States to Southwest Florida.
What a timely show for the week of Valentine’s Day.
