The Fort Myers Mural Society began installing a 57-piece mural project in late December around the perimeter of the water retention basin on the east side of the Luminary Hotel in the Fort Myers River District.
This collaboration between the Fort Myers Mural Society, Fort Myers Public Art Committee, Historic Preservation Commission and the Community Redevelopment Agency began in July 2022. The mural project depicts the history of the Fort Myers riverfront and its contribution to the development of the city.
A group of 40 local artists and Mural Society artist members individually created the pictorial history using historic photographs, postcards and newspaper articles. Each mural panel will be on the base of every lamppost around the basin. The murals are presented in a wide variety of artistic styles and presented in museum format with an audio app titled Otocast telling the story of each piece in English and Spanish.
Updates on the project will be posted continually until completion. Visit the website at www.fortmyersmuralsociety.com for more details.
