Naples Art (NA) invites the public to experience the electoral process firsthand by voting at the “Your Choice” 2019 reception and awards election this Friday, Aug. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Naples Art building, 585 Park Street in Downtown Naples.
There is a $10 voluntary donation at the door and admission is free for Naples Art donors and members. The “Your Choice” 2019 exhibition provides an opportunity for 80 exhibiting artists to present their artwork to a large audience with no jury process requirement. Artists and viewers alike will decide the winners by casting their vote in a true-to-form election setup overseen by the Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office, who has named Naples Art as a special precinct for the reception. Each of the artists has delivered an original piece of artwork to Naples Art for the event and will be listed as “Candidates” on an official ballot. The five awards have a total cash value of $1,000.
“We appreciate and value our partnership with Naples Art,” said Jennifer J. Edwards, supervisor of elections. “Not only does the Your Choice election further our voter education efforts, it is a reminder to our community about the approaching 2020 election cycle and encourages our voters to be election ready.” The NA “precinct” will be open to everyone attending the reception. Contrary to a typical election, people of all ages are welcome to vote, and voter registration is not required.
Naples Art executive director Aimee Schlehr declares, “Our precinct is identical to the ones used for Collier County elections. I especially look forward to watching our local young people casting a vote for the first time. It builds their confidence and excitement, and prepares them for adulthood and their future as voters.”
The exhibition is sponsored by Jean Devine, The Naples Daily News and Spotlight Magazine. The reception is sponsored by Grace Lakes Florist and downtown Naples hot spot Vergina Restaurant.
The “Your Choice” 2019 Exhibition continues through September 25 at the Naples Art building. This free exhibition will be open to the public during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. For more information about Naples Art, please visit www.naplesart.org.
