Neenie’s House is the vision of Janeen Vanko, a retired steel salesman from the Chicago area. When she moved here last year, she bought a vacant shop in east Fort Myers. Her artsy, reloved stuff shop, has evolved into a really cool space, and now houses the Love Your Rebellion’s Zine Library, and even more now – The Peace Plaza is an event space rental.
Janeen is a neighborhood activist, in her east Palm neighborhood, and would really like to create a “Funkytown” in this mixed ethnic commercial area. Every weekend she has the East Palm Mercado with vendors selling fleamarket items, plants and art. “We need to support efforts like this to create a new neighborhood in Fort Myers, to support the arts and diversity,” says Vanko.
