Plein air festival in Punta Gorda; Open house for classes Jan. 3 & 4

The Visual Arts Center, Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce and the Punta Gorda Historic Mural Society are celebrating 25 years of Painting the Town.
What began as an Annual Quickdraw competition for plein air artists has inspired an entire month of exciting events, ending with a reception and silent auction of historic framed mural renderings. Join us for outdoor paint-outs, art receptions, history classes and more.
Quickdraw Competition: Jan. 13, 9 am – 1 pm, find artists around downtown with balloons to watch them paint
Quickdraw Luncheon: Jan. 13, 12:30 – 2:20 pm, awards and lunch reception with quickdraw artists, tickets $15
Plein air paint-out: Jan. 16, 4 – 6 pm, artists at work Downtown at Wine Walk
Rooftop Sunset Painting: Jan. 23, view the Peace River painters at the Wyvern Hotel
Plein Air Exhibit: Jan. 7 – 30, free and open to the public in main gallery
Original Mural Rendering Exhibit and Silent Auction: Jan. 7 – 30, free and open to the public in Goff gallery
Original Mural Rendering Exhibit Ribbon Cutting: Jan. 9, noon, free event at the Visual Arts Center
Plein Air Awards Reception: Jan. 15, 5 – 7 pm, free and open to the public in main gallery
Downtown mural walking tours from 9 – 11:30 am Jan. 14, 21 & 28, tickets $15
Mural History Class: Jan. 28 & 30 at Isles Civic Association, tickets $18 or two for $30
25 Years of Painting the Town Reception and Silent Auction on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6 pm in Goff Gallery at the Visual Arts Center, tickets are $20

Open House Jan. 3 and 4

The Visual Arts Center will host an open house for new classes and instructors Jan. 3 and 4.
Open house hours are Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The center will have complimentary mimosas both days. Visit with the talented instructors who will be presenting demonstrations in all different media including pottery, painting, drawing, sculpture, jewelry making and more as you learn about upcoming classes, workshops and art events. This season, the center is excited to introduce some new classes, in addition to the usual favorites.
The VAC also hosts wine and painting parties “Anything But Canvas,” “Let’s Get Splashed” and “Etched Wine Glasses” on Wednesday evenings. In addition, six master workshops are planned for the busy upcoming season.
