Arts for ACT Gallery, located at 2265 First St. in downtown Fort Myers, welcomes Rebecca Christopher as the featured artists in May. An opening reception will be held Friday, May 3 from 5 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with Fort Myers Art Walk.
Rebecca started drawing and painting at a young age, and by the teen years, her hobby had grown to a passion. Her focus in her early years was watercolor portraits. Rebecca moved to New York, obtained a job, and had little time for art. She married, moved to Tallahassee, Florida and had twins and art was weigh laid, except for doing chalk drawings with her children. During the COVID pandemic, Rebecca finally had time to pursue art again. Rebecca began to play and discover the possibility of abstracts. In watching pour videos, she decided to mix her acrylic with pouring medium, then swept the mélange of premixed colors onto a canvas and let the color guide her. Veering from traditional brushes, she spread her colors with a palette knife and blew then into shapes with a straw.
