Arts for ACT Gallery in downtown Fort Myers presents the art of Rodney Acosta in August. An opening reception for “Glimpses of the Astral” exhibit will be held Friday, Aug. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with Art Walk.
Rodney Acosta has been drawing and painting since he was 14 years old.
He graduated from the San Juan School of Fine Arts obtaining a bachelor’s degree in visual arts. He then continued his education at Rolling’s College in Florida.
He has been producing and exhibiting his art since then in one medium or another in Florida and the Caribbean.
His exhibitions to name a few; 3 times at The annual Biennial Exhibit of “Cuartel la Puntilla San Juan”,O.V.A.L. Artists League in Orlando Museum of Art, Cafe Tutu Tango, Borders Bookstore, DAAS Co-Op, and The Davis Art center among others.

He has taught individual art classes from time to time and has participated and won at least three art contests. Acosta’s works are mostly mixed media on canvas or board. He has also produced several sculptures in steel and wood. His technique consists of extreme light contrasts, heavy textures, scratching over layers of oil, and adding found objects and textiles.
In this collection, Acosta aims not at imitating reality as it is but at exploring the world of the subconscious the realm of dreams; where images don’t necessary make sense. The inexplicable place where objects as characters from distant eras and places play together, as if they existed on the same period or place. The mysterious esoteric symbolism that evokes an idea or a period of our lives or our most lucid dreams. His pieces often take you to an abandoned, but beautiful place that were ignored in between relevant events, but are now understood.
This exhibit continues through Monday, Aug. 29.
