Sea Grape Gallery will be featuring two of their artists, Barbara Albin (acrylics and watercolors) and Gary Skelly (ceramics) from March 7 to April 4.
Barb Albin has always loved art and sold her first two paintings at the age of 17 to Northern Illinois University. Since moving to Florida from the Chicago area, she has taught art at the local art center, has entered over 300 juried and invitational shows, has juried several art shows, and enjoys presenting art workshops. Barb is a member of the Florida Watercolor Society, Women Contemporary Artists in Sarasota, The National League of American Pen Women, along with being an active member of many local arts organizations. Barb’s paintings are bright and vibrant with color. As Barb says, “I love color. I love how the world is so full of color and life. I feel the energy of nature pulsating through the earth and the atmosphere.” When viewing Barb’s paintings, it is evident that this is her inspiration as she captures on canvas all the emotions and joy she feels.

Gary Skelly

Gary Skelly is a ceramics artist who has over 35 years of experience in pottery, sculpture, and porcelain lighting. He works both on the wheel and with slabbed pieces of clay and has extensive experience with Raku and Saggar firing. Although continuing his love of working in porcelain, Gary has recently ventured into the intricate high fire process of crystalline pottery where crystals are actually grown on the surface of the pots during a controlled firing process. In addition to his crystalline work, Gary’s artwork also includes unique carved flora and dinosaur eggs. Gary explains that “I am constantly striving to make pieces that communicate a sense of balance and complexity, hoping to leave behind something that not only brings some beauty into the world but also might bring a sense of balance and serenity when viewed”. When viewing Gary’s spectacular artwork, it becomes evident that he has accomplished this goal.
Many of Barb’s beautiful colorful paintings and Gary’s ceramic pieces are prominently on display at the Sea Grape Gallery. In addition, more of their art and the artwork of all Sea Grape artists can be viewed at www.seagrapegallery.com.
Sea Grape Gallery is located at 113 W. Marion Ave. in downtown Punta Gorda and can be reached at 941-575-1718.
