Sea Grape Gallery announces that during the month of March it will be showcasing the artworks of Carolyn Dlouhy Walega, acrylic painter; Sheryl Unwin, scratchboard artist; and Kathy Erickson, pine needle basket artist.

Carolyn Walega

Carolyn Walega is a painter of leaves, trees, and organic forms which recur often in many of her paintings accenting nature, the abstract, and flow of spiraling or pirouette-like movements. As a colorist with a full ranging palette, she engages charcoal to add the element of line. As Carolyn explains, “in the subtropical environment of southwest Florida, I find inspiration in its beautiful banana and palm trees”. Carolyn’s artworks are primarily on gessoed paper or canvas.

Sheryl Unwin

Sheryl Unwin lived in England for many years prior to moving to Florida. Her professional background is a Graphic designer. However, her true passion is creating realistic scratchboard, color and graphite pencil and pen and ink drawings of her favorite subjects which are animals and nature. As Sheryl says, “I love to draw from the largest of wildlife creatures to the smallest of domestic pets.” In addition, Sheryl also enjoys drawing portraits of people.

Kathy Erickson

Kathy Erickson spent many years in the teaching profession, however, always admired and collected many pieces of fine art. After retirement, she began focusing on creating her own artwork. Kathy strives to develop innovative designs and blend the aspects of different styles of basketry. She works into her baskets objects of nature and hand spun wool into her pine needle and hand processed native grass creations. In addition, she may incorporate agate slices or stone slabs into the bases, sides, and covers of her pine needle baskets.
The beautiful and unique artwork of all three of these artists can be viewed on Sea Grape’s website at www.seagrapegallery.com. Sea Grape Gallery is located at 113 W. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda. To learn more about Sea Grape’s guest artist program call 941-575-1718.
