The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center (SBDAC) is calling all singer-songwriters for the annual Singer-Songwriter Competition.
The competition, part of the SBDAC’s Sounds of Summer Series, focuses on original musicians in the singer-songwriter genre. This event held at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center provides performers in the genre the opportunity to perform an original song live, win great prizes, and compete for a spot at Southwest Florida’s Island Hopper Songwriter Festival.
Competitors must submit lyrics and a video of themselves performing an original song by Aug. 11, and there is no fee to enter. Selected artists will be invited to perform live at SBDAC on Friday, Aug. 19 in front of a judge’s panel and a live audience. Each performer selected will have the chance to play one original song for the audience and judges. Judges will also give feedback on each performance. Judges will determine the grand prize winner, and the audience has a chance to vote for the People’s Choice Winner.
Out of state submissions are also encouraged, but the competition does not provide airfare or travel accommodations. The deadline for video entries is Aug. 11, and can be submitted online at www.sbdac.com/singer-songwriter-competition/
The winner of the grand prize will receive a performance spot at the Island Hopper Songwriter Festival in September, three hours of recording studio time utilizing SBDAC’s Six Fingers studio, gift cards from the Kearns Group restaurants and other downtown businesses, four concert tickets to any SBDAC 2022-2023 Season event, SBDAC & Island Hopper swag, and of course, a trophy with bragging rights! The winner of the People’s Choice award will receive gift cards from two downtown restaurants, four concert tickets to any SBDAC 2022-2023 Season event, and again, SBDAC & Island Hopper Swag plus a trophy.
For each Sounds of Summer event, doors open for cocktails at 6:30 pm, and the performance begins at 7:30 pm. All tickets are $10 for general admission.
The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center is located at 2301 First St. in the historic downtown Fort Myers River District. For more information, visit www.sbdac.com or call 239-333-1933.
