The Southwest Florida Concert Band with guest vocalist Kathy Lamade will perform Songs of the Sea Concert on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. at South Fort Myers High School 14020 Plantation Road, Fort Myers
The 45 member community band will perform a concert to celebrate the music of the sea that is certain to entertain all audiences.
The concert will start with “Fantasy on American Sailing Songs” that will capture the essence of life on the water. The “Water is Wide,” also known as Waly Waly, is a ancient Scottish song about love and the band will perform a very emotional version of this melody. Our guest vocalist Kathy Lamade will sing “Moon River” and, from the movie Titanic, “My Heart Will Go On.” You will hear American River Songs featuring traditional songs from the era of riverboat travel and a fun arrangement of songs by the Beach Boys including “California Girls,” “I Get Around,” “Good Vibrations” and more. There will be a Sousa march “Hands Across the Sea” and a fun trumpet section feature called “Trumpets Olé.” The band will show off its musical skills with the performance of the challenging “Second Suite in F” for band by Gustav Holst. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, they will play a melody of Beatles love songs to sing along to. The concert will conclude with a dynamic version of music from the movie Pirates of the Carribbean.
All concerts are free with donations accepted. Information on the group, our scholarship program, and other performances can be found on our website.
To protect the health of supportive patrons all audience members must wear masks during performances until further notice. Check the website for updates at www.SouthwestFloridaConcertBand.org
