The 45-member Southwest Florida Concert Band will perform The Best of Broadway concert on Feb. 5 and A Journey into Space concert on Feb. 26.
On Feb. 5, the band will perform The Best of Broadway Concert, with Music from Les Miserablés, The Greatest Showman and a selection of Richard Rodgers favorites. Our oboe soloist will play Gabriel’s Oboe and the band will perform the dynamic music from the Broadway hits Lion King, Sound of Music and Phantom of the Opera. We have also programmed the Egmont Overture by Beethoven to add a touch of classics.
On Feb. 26, the band will take flight with our A Journey into Space Concert with feature vocalist Bob Helfrich singing Moon River and Star Dust. The band will perform music from Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy and present Holst’s Mars from his Planets Suite. Just for fun we have added a Klezmer piece and a little music to remember Valentine’s Day. The show will close with a dramatic and impressive arrangement of Star Wars composed by John Williams.
All performances take place at 2 p.m. on Sundays at South Fort Myers High School, 14020 Plantation Road, Fort Myers.
All concerts are free with donations accepted. Information on the group, our scholarship program, and other performances can be found at www.SouthwestFloridaConcertBand.org
