SW Florida Concert Band performs Feb. 5 and 26

The 45-member Southwest Florida Concert Band announces its remaining performances for the 2022-23 season.
All performances take place 2 p.m. Sundays at South Fort Myers High School, 14020 Plantation Road, Fort Myers.
On Feb. 5, the band will perform The Music of Broadway Concert, with feature vocalist Janna Braun, singing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserable, Never Enough from The Greatest Showman and a selection of Richard Rodgers favorites. Our oboe soloist will perform Gabriel’s Oboe and the band will perform the dynamic music from the Broadway hits Lion King, Sound of Music and Phantom of the Opera. They have also programmed the Egmont Overture by Beethoven to add a touch of classics.
On Feb. 26, the band will take flight with our Journey into Space Concert with feature vocalist Bob Helfrich singing Moon River and Star Dust. The band will perform music from Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy and present Holst’s Mars from his Planets Suite. Just for fun, they have added a Klezmer piece and a little music to remember Valentine’s Day. The show will close with a dramatic and impressive arrangement of Star Wars composed by John Williams.
On March 26, the band will mount up for our Into the West Concert of music celebrating life on the trail. From the music of Silverado to Southwest Saga you will get the feeling of the wide open country. With songs from Oklahoma and some Willie Nelson thrown in you will want to hear this western themed show which will get your toes tapping in those cowboy boots. The band will also feature some music for St. Patrick’s Day to complete the uplifting spirit of March.
April 16, will be the last show of the season so they are going to be Playing the Blues Concert. With music from Old Blue Eyes (Sinatra) sung by Bob Helfrich, to the sizzling clarinet solo Wildcat Blues, the band will feature a wide variety of music on a blue theme that will entertain everyone. From the trombone solo Blues Essay to Blue Moon to Blue Tango to Saint Louis Blues we will present a rocking blue conclusion to another dynamic and enjoyable series of concerts of the newest community concert band in Southwest Florida.
