Though they set up shop in their new administrative office space in August, the Southwest Florida Symphony is comfortably settled in and will host an open house on Thursday, Jan. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. to introduce the community to its new home.
Guests are invited to tour the space located in the Sanibel Captiva Community Bank building at 7500 College Parkway, suite 200, Fort Myers and enjoy performances by several Southwest Florida Symphony musicians and Youth Orchestra students throughout the afternoon and evening.
Capacity is limited to 12 visitors at a time. Temperature checks will be done upon visitors’ arrival and masks are required for entry. In addition to introducing the community to the orchestra’s new home, visitors are encouraged to bring donations of hygiene products for the Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry & Glades Counties.
“We’ve been hosting a food drive at our opening Masterworks for several years, but the needs of local families must still be met after the holidays. Our community is still suffering from the effects the pandemic. We’ve been hit particularly hard since Southwest Florida’s service industry provides a living to so many people. Hygiene products tend to be overlooked when supply donations are sought, so we’re hoping to fill that void at our housewarming party,” said executive director Amy Ginsburg said.
The Southwest Florida Symphony’s 60th concert year was scheduled to commence on Oct. 26, but alternative performance plans have been developed as a result of the pandemic. The orchestra will perform concerts consisting of much smaller ensembles throughout 2021. Performances of MiniMasterworks: Death and the Maiden happen on Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, Jan. 16 at 5 p.m. at Bell Tower and Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Sanibel Community House.
Details about concerts for the symphony’s season are available on its website. Tickets are available by calling 239-418-1500 or visiting online at www.swflso.org.
