Players Circle Theater at the Shell Factory will open its fifth show of its 2022-2023 season with the comedy The Foreigner by Larry Shue on Saturday, April 22 with a 7 p.m. performance including a champagne reception with music in the lobby before the show. Discounted previews are April 18 – 21. The show runs through Sunday, May 7.
The Foreigner is an Obie Winning Best Comedy. Trying to forget his marital problems, dull and doleful Charlie Baker takes a fishing-lodge holiday in the Deep South of America, and to avoid being pestered by the locals pretends that he is a foreigner who speaks no English. You’ll fall in love with Charlie, the pathologically shy Englishman who, after being deserted in a rural Georgia fishing lodge, must fend for himself.
The cast for The Foreigner includes Steven Coe as David, Dennis Delamar as Charlie, Paul Graffy as Froggy, Maddy Hayes as Catherine, Steven Kennedy as Ellard, Thomas Marsh as Owen and Sue Schaffel as Betty.
The Foreigner is directed by Robert Cacioppo, with set design by Steven McLean and costume design by Terri Schafer.
Artie D’Alessio is production stage manager.
Players Circle Theater is located at the Shell Factory, 16544 N. Cleveland Ave., North Fort Myers. Performances for The Foreigner are in the round, with audiences on four sides. Only 150 seats with no seat more than four rows from the stage, Players Circle is one of the most intimate theaters in SW Florida. Parking is free. Dinner is available in the Southern Grill Restaurant adjacent to the theater’s lobby (call the restaurant at 239-995-3999 for dinner reservations).
