Performances move to temporary location during renovations
The Naples Players announces a new addition to its 2022-23 season in the form of A.R. Gurney’s clever comedy, Sylvia. This charming, comedic love story is the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and all the loved ones in our lives – especially the ones on four legs.
Sylvia is a hilarious and heartwarming story about Greg and Kate, who move to Manhattan as Greg transitions into retirement. Greg meets Sylvia, a street-smart poodle mix, in Central Park and brings her home to Kate – causing chaos, hilarity, and asking the question who really is man’s best friend. It runs Feb. 8 – March 5.
This unexpected love story will introduce patrons of The Naples Players to their temporary home, pending an upcoming capital project. A local church, Naples United Church of Christ (5200 Crayton Road), has opened its doors to The Naples Players for Sylvia, education programming, and much of TNPs 2023-24 season as their building is renovated.
TNP favorite Jessica Walck will be taking the proverbial “lead” on this production as the director. “It’s about more than a relationship between a husband and wife, or even a human and dog,” says Walck, “it’s a celebration of love in all its forms. The beauty of dogs is that they love you no matter what so it is very moving to see that type of unconditional love expressed through a human.”
Walck will be joined by the following creative team: scenic designer Michael Santos, props master Jillian Feingenblat, costume designer Dot Auchmoody, lighting designer Craig Walck, co-sound designers Pluto Boll and Bradley Van Houten and stage manager Esther Snyder. Walck will lead a dynamic cast, featuring both new and familiar faces to The Naples Players stage.
The cast includes (in alphabetical order): Pamela Austin as Kate, Robert Ball as Tom/Leslie/Phyllis, Ron Pirrello as Greg and Samantha Reece making her TNP debut as Sylvia.
Sylvia completes the 2022-23 season, joining audience favorite Sound of Music (running March 1 – April 2) and the murderously funny The Game’s Afoot (running Jan. 11 – Feb. 5). With the addition of this show, The Naples Players has also made season tickets available to the public once again. Season ticket holders are treated to cheaper tickets, free wine, early access to new seasons, and many other perks. To add Sylvia to your current subscription package, or to purchase a new one, contact the box office at 239-263-7990.
