The hills are alive! Or, they will be from March 1 – April 2 at The Naples Players.
The beloved final collaboration of Rodgers and Hammerstein, The Sound of Music, will finish out the 2022-2023 season at TNP, and will be the final production in Blackburn Hall before the building is renovated.
Destined to become the world’s most beloved musical by featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars.
The inspirational story, based on the real-life memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must escape.
This show is the perfect way to close the curtain on TNP’s current facility – the nostalgic musical of a family searching for their place in the world. For so many, The Naples Players has become that home. But it isn’t the physical location – it’s the people who make TNP home.
“The Sound of Music has been one of our most heavily requested shows,” said Bryce Alexander, CEO & executive artistic director. “Accompanied by our live, 15-piece orchestra, the show is sure to delight audiences – and create a standard for all of our musicals moving forward.”
