Theatre Conspiracy continues its season at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers with the current production of Engagement Rules by Rich Orloff
Directed by Bill Taylor, the play opened Sept 20 and runs through Oct. 6. Remaining performances include Sept. 26, 27, 28 Oct. 3, 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 29 and Oct. 6 at 2 p.m.
Engagement Rules stars Jim Yarnes, Carolyn England, Cicero McCarter and Sonya McCarter, A four-character comedy with bite, Engagement Rules follows the intertwined lives of two couples who advise and support each other on challenges of love, sex and the soul. The younger couple (early 30s) is recently engaged, and the older (in their 70s) has been married over 50 years.
Theatre Conspiracy’s next production will be 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche by Evan Linder and Andrew Hobgood. Directed by Stephanie Davis, the play runs Oct. 24 through Nov. 3.
The year is 1956 and fears of Communist attack and homosexual subversion permeate the US. Inside a tastefully revamped meeting hall/bomb shelter, the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein is convening for its annual Quiche Breakfast.
The Sisters have barely begun to savor the prize-winning quiche when alarms sound and Soviet bombs begin to fall. Faced with the prospect of spending the next four years locked in the shelter, the Sisters throw social convention to the nuclear winds and collectively embrace their true lesbian identity.
