Tower Gallery on Sanibel is a cooperative consisting of 25 artists in two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, ceramic, jewelry, fiber, wood, glass and metal.
JoAnne Bedient is part of that cooperative and is a ceramic and mixed media artist.
She has been with the Tower Gallery 32 out of the 42 years it’s been in existence. Primarily a ceramic artist, she is a hand builder (work not done on a potter’s wheel) with most of her ceramic work fired in a raku kiln.
JoAnne is probably best known through the years for her whimsical ceramic shoes which she is resurrecting for a “coming soon” spring and summer showing at Tower Gallery. She is also doing some printmaking – some are on canvas or matted and framed and some are collaged onto her clay forms with “Hooked and Red Hot” as examples of the prints collaged onto ceramic forms.
She does not stick to one theme or subject. You never know what you’ll find, but it will always have a touch of sophisticated whimsey involved.
Tower Gallery is located at 751 Tarpon Bay Road on Sanibel and is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more details, call the gallery at 239-472-4557 or visit online at
