The Laboratory Theater of Florida, in association with Aurora Nova Productions and Boat Rocker Entertainment, will present the Southwest Florida premiere of White Rabbit Red Rabbit by Nassim Soleimanpour from Oct. 14 through Oct. 23.
With no rehearsal, no director, a different actor each night, and a script waiting in a sealed envelope on stage, this show is a theatrical experience that reminds us of the transformative power of theater.
The play is written by Nassim Soleimanpour, who could not leave Iran when he wrote White Rabbit Red Rabbit due to his refusal to serve in the military as what we would call a conscientious objector. This refusal resulted in the revocation of his passport, and the restriction of his international travel privileges. He encourages participants to break traditional theater etiquette and leave their cell phones on for reasons explained before the performance.
The lineup of actors and celebrity performers includes Stephanie Davis, Sonya McCarter, Dave Yudowitz, Eric Raddatz, Randall Kenneth Jones, Melanie Payne, PJ McCready, Lucy Sundby and Ella Nayor.
Artistic director Annette Trossbach says, “The play invites the audience as well as the performer to enjoy the raw immediacy of theater. It’s an artistic risk for each of the performers and therefore a unique spectacle for each of the audiences.”
The play contains mature themes.
